About Us

Nestled along the banks of the majestic Mississippi River, Big River Theatre is an intimate arts venue that fosters a culture of exceptional music, film and creative community. The venue showcases a diverse lineup of talented artists, both local and nationally touring musicians and film makers. Big River Theatre is dedicated to promoting and preserving independent music and film, and makes big efforts to platform highly skilled artists and create a comfortable and high quality listening environment.
Big River Theatre, (originally called "The Tscharner Building" ) built in 1895, has gone through a number of identities, but has been a live music and arts venue since 2002. Notably, it was the anchor point for the Big River Radio Wave, which aired on Wisconsin Public Radio from 2010-2019, hosted by Mac Cherry & Al Ross.
Its current operators, Josh & Katie, have been tending the joint since 2023, and have welcomed some incredible talent to the Big River stage. Want jazz? Let Adam Levy or Dean Magraw mesmerize you with some sweet sweet solos. Want bluegrass? Steam Machine can take you there. More into classical? Hiroya Tsukamoto and Philip Daniel are going to leave you breathless. What about something you've never heard before? Mongolian folk-fusion trio Tuvergen is the band for you! Regardless of the show you choose to attend you can be sure that the quality will be high, the delight will be great, and you will leave happy that you chose to join us.
